Based on the method of installation, piles are classified as either displacement (driven) or nondisplacement (bored) piles. Pipe piles can be classified as either closed- or open-ended piles. In this paper, the pile load capacity of both closed- and open-ended driven piles in sand is investigated using fully instrumented field pile load tests and calibration chamber pile load tests. A total of 36 calibration chamber and 2 full-scale field load tests on closed- and open-ended piles were analyzed. All the test piles were instrumented for separate measurement of each pile resistance component.
